American Alt Country meets Folk and Westcoast harmony
America, Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt, The Band, Little Feat, Neil Young, Seals & Crofts, Emmy Lou Harris, Crosby Stills Nash & Young and Joni Mitchell stand as influences. Canyon’s debut album features their signature four-part harmonies set in songs about deserts, forests, raging water, open highways and broken hearts.
Canyon blends acoustic and electric instruments, at times singing around a single condenser mic in a traditional Bluegrass style. Formed in 2015 by singer, songwriter and guitarist Peter Chapman, Canyon features Louise Dempsey (yes, Paul’s sister), with Bruce Packard (Coolgrass, Concordia Mandolin Orchestra), Josh Bennett (Davidson Brothers, The Bombay Royale) and Robi Parolin (Aus Bee Gees Show). Canyon appeared live on ‘The Friday Revue’ with Brian Nankervis and Richelle Hunt and ‘Evenings’ with Lindy Burn, ABC 774. Canyon are set to headline the Outback Fusion festival in Newman East Pilbara Sep 2018 and do the Café Culture Vic Tour April-May 2019. They have played the Harvest N Graze Fest Docklands and Festival of Sails Geelong.
